We had the opportunity to experience the miracle of new life firsthand using an incubator to simulate a mother hen roosting on her eggs. We used a developmental set of eggs to understand how the embryo develops inside the egg for 21 days until a chick pecks its way out of its eggshell and is hatched! We were blessed to have 18 chicks hatch. We loved holding them and watching their downy feathers develop into mature feathers. We had such an awesome experience. We pray God would watch over them as they live out the rest of their lives on the farm.
We have had fun in math learning about units of measurement (inches, feet, yards, centimeters, meters, cups, pints, quarts, liters, pounds, kilograms, Fahrenheit, Celsius). We measured and compared many things around the classroom. We were shown how important mathematics is to our everyday life.
Our class was blessed to be able to host a special Grandparents Day. Forty guests joined us for the fun-filled day. What made this day extra special was that each 1st and 2nd grader was able to spend some quality one on one time with their grandparents. We enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared for us by our cook Mrs. Halverson, toured our classroom, viewed our art gallery and writing projects, played Jenga, juggled scarves, played Twister Maze, read books to our grandparents, made tile coasters, and performed a vocal concert to end our day together.
“Grandparents are God’s gift to children…giving generously of themselves through the years with words and hugs to ease young fears, telling lively stories that light up a child’s face, living in faith while finding strength in God’s grace, showing that each day is filled with love. Grandparents are a gift from above.”
We were also honored to lead the worship service on Grandparent’s Day. We centered our worship on Matthew 13:1-23: The Parable of the Sower. Learning how important hearing and truly understanding God’s Word (the seed) is what our school is all about. We work hard to integrate the Word of God that all His saving power may know.
As the school year comes to a close, it’s amazing to see how God has worked in the hearts of these dear 1st and 2nd graders helping them grow in their faith to love and forgive. Our King Jesus has given us the best gift ever – eternal life. Jesus took our sin and punishment and we are truly grateful. “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1st Corinthians 15:57.
