Another month has flown by, and we have been enjoying the beautiful weather! Speaking of weather, our geode books have focused on different types of storms. We’ve learned about hurricanes, dust storms, and thunderstorms. We’ve read about what happens during these storms, how communities come together to help each other afterward, and how to be brave during storms. Now, we are reading about fairy tales.
In Math, we’ve learned how to measure using paper clips, cubes, and rulers. We measured various items around the classroom and even different animal cutouts. We’ve now started counting coins! We began with nickels and pennies, then added dimes, and finally quarters.
In Science, we’ve been learning about the sky and how God created light and darkness. We’ve explored concepts like daytime and nighttime, the sun and the moon, and stars and constellations.
In Social Studies, we are learning about different cultures around the world. It’s been fun to discover how people speak different languages and do things differently than we do. We also discussed ways to care for our Earth. On Earth Day, we cleaned up the blocks around our school in our chapel family groups.
For Art, we read about an artist named Mondrian, who only used primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) and straight lines in his artwork. Inspired by Mondrian, we created our own pieces. We also worked on profile art, where we used scrapbook paper with different patterns and textures to cover a picture of the side of our face. We then added bubble letters to spell out our names.
This month, we took a couple of field trips. First, we attended the performance What Do You Do With an Idea? Afterward, we visited the sculpture park, had a picnic as a class, and walked around admiring the different sculptures. For our second field trip, we went to the science center to learn and play. We ended the day by enjoying a sweet treat together.
