1st Grade - February 2023

February has been a fun month in First Grade. To start the month off, we celebrated the 100th Day of School. We are now 100 days smarter!

Then we also got to go on a winter field trip! We went to the Ice Arena and learned how to ice skate with the 5th - 8th graders. We all had a blast even though we fell many times!

For art, we made a lot of different heart crafts to show our love and the love God has for us. We even made a bouquet of flowers for our families!

To show our love for our classmates, we had a Valentine's Party where we got to play games, make crafts, and eat snacks. Along with celebrating Valentine’s Day, we learned about President’s Day.

In STEM we got to make our own Mount Rushmore Models. Then we also read facts about each of the 46 presidents. It was a good way to add to our social studies unit because we talked about the different types of leaders. We also talked about who our number 1 leader is, God!

In Social Studies, we are learning about different communities and how they are alike and different. We learned about the 4 directions and how to use a map. We also got to do an activity to see how many states each of us has visited. We made two different types of graphs to go along with it. Then we started learning the 50 States song!

In reading, we have continued to read our Geode books. This month we have read about animals and how they communicate with each other. We also learned about how the animals stay safe from predators and how each animal has a purpose. Isn’t it amazing how God created all the animals?

To go along with our animal theme in reading, we started a PE lesson on how people move versus how animals move. We played different games while moving like animals, collecting “food,” and staying safe.

What an amazing month learning about the love God has for us!
