As the weather gets warmer, the grass turns green, trees and flowers begin to blossom, and new life is springing up all around us. In our classroom, we’re excitedly awaiting the hatching of chick eggs, which we expect around the 8th of May. We hope to hear faint chirps as the newly hatched chicks emerge from their eggs.
We had fun creating Zentangle bunnies, spring flowers, and writing themed acrostic poems. In Math, we estimated, measured, and compared items around the classroom using inches, feet, and yards, showing us just how important mathematics is in our daily lives. Geometry has been both fun and challenging as we learned about sides, vertices, right, acute, obtuse, and straight angles, polygons, triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
We thoroughly enjoyed reading Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. It’s a rich and heartwarming story that explores themes of friendship and sacrifice, the circle of life, and the power of words through the special bond between a pig named Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte. After reading the book, we attended a performance of Charlotte’s Web at CY Stephens, which the students loved!
We also visited the ISU Workspace, where we created our own spiders or pigs. Each creation took on its own unique personality.
An extra special highlight of April was hosting Grandparents’ Day. We were blessed to have 40 guests join us for lunch and a fun-filled afternoon. What made this day so special was the one-on-one time each 2nd grader spent with their grandparents. We enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by Mrs. Leeck, shared stories, played games, crafted, showed off our artwork and personal timelines, and performed a vocal concert.
Along with the 1st graders, we led the worship service for the day. The service centered around how God worked in the life of Saul, converting him from persecuting Christians to proclaiming the gospel to the nations. Jesus also comes to us in His Holy Word and the sacraments to change lives. Thanks be to God for the gift of faith we have been given.
