2nd Grade - May 2024

We had so much fun at the all-school track meet held at the Ogden track. Despite the cold day, we gave it our all! We competed in three individual events (35-meter run, 200-meter run, softball throw, standing long jump, and jump rope) and two team events (shuttle relay race, over & under, and the three-legged race). Everyone showed great effort and teamwork!

We also had the opportunity to participate in the spring musical, Time and Time Again, performing on the big stage of the high school auditorium. It was such a cool experience! One of our favorite songs to perform was Sock Hop, where we enjoyed rocking out to 50s music with our partners.

Our class took part in an Arts Day adventure in Des Moines. We visited Mainframe Studios, where we were inspired by the talented artist Jess Quinn during a painting class in her studio. She is an amazing painter! Next, we were captivated by a glassblowing demonstration by Jesse at JJ Gaffer’s studio as he created a beautiful bowl. We wrapped up the day at the Civic Center, where we were mesmerized by the Peking Acrobats. Their show featured trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, and impressive displays of contortion, flexibility, and daring maneuvers.

We also enjoyed a perfect adventure day at Don Williams Park, packed with exploration and discovery. We delved into the world of birds, marveling at the diversity of avian life, from soaring eagles to chirping sparrows. We learned about six distinct types of bird beaks and bills, each designed by God for a specific purpose. Our survival skills were put to the test in a thrilling game as we searched for shelter, water, and food while evading hunters. We even had a bit of fishing fun! It was great to have our first-grade friends join us for this exciting day.

Our final outing of the school year took us back in time to the historic Cole School, located 2½ miles northeast of Boone and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1888 and operating until 1933, this one-room school gave us a taste of what education was like in the early 1900s. We arrived by covered wagon, dressed in period clothes, and brought our lunches in baskets. We sat in wooden desks, wrote on slates, danced to the victrola, and played old-fashioned games. It was an experience we’ll never forget!

Looking back on this school year, we praise God for bringing us together. We’ve learned so much from one another and have grown in our understanding of God’s Word and its true application in our lives. We’ve shown love and forgiveness to one another and have experienced God’s unconditional love and grace daily. As Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not by works, so no one may boast."

THANKS BE TO GOD!
