Merry Christmas! Is your heart ready? During this advent season we remember how Jesus came to us on that first Christmas long ago, how He came to our hearts when the Holy Spirit gave us our faith, and we look forward to his coming again on the last day. As we wait, we worship and serve Him with the gifts He has given us.
We celebrate by singing praises. Our 3rd-8th grade choir will be presenting a choir anthem at one of the afternoon advent services and also at a Sunday morning service in December. We also will be sharing our faith with family and friends at our Christmas Worship Service, What Child Is This? on Friday, December 14, at 7:00 P.M. Some of our choir rehearsals in November and almost all of the rehearsals in December are used to get ready for this service. We praise God for these opportunities to spread the Good News of Jesus.
Two real life heroes came to visit our school during lunch November 12. Both serve in the Navy and were able to share and answer questions. The 3rd-8th grade choir sang the Armed Forces hymn, “Lord, Guard and Guide”. We were very blessed to have this opportunity and are thankful for all those who serve and keep our country safe.
We listened to an audio book, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. We were very surprised at some of the things the Herdman children do in this book. It certainly is funny! The best part is the message the story brings. Jesus came into the world for everyone and makes wonderful changes in each of us. We enjoyed a field trip to the Des Moines Playhouse to see this play performed. We thank Mrs. Hastie (Laynie’s grandma) and Mr. Anderson for driving and/or chaperoning this trip.
Have you checked out our class website at trinity3n4.com? We have so many pictures of what we have been doing. We even have a video of our chapel service which includes the musical, Unselfie. For the protection of our students the picture and movie pages are password protected. Ask any 3rd or 4th grader (or their teacher) for this access password.
We enjoyed doing a class read of the book, If You Sailed on the Mayflower.
We learned many new things about the Pilgrims, their travels to their new home, and also about that first Thanksgiving celebration. On their voyage they endured many hardships - sea sickness, very close living quarters, disease, wearing the same clothes and not bathing for the whole trip. Even the water they brought to drink eventually went bad. Do you know what the children drank instead? We were very surprised!
In art we have completed several projects. We painted pictures using dots of acrylic paint. We drew and colored pictures of one of our favorite animals. After creating some interesting collage paper we made pieces of that paper into another animal. Please check these out in the hallway near our classroom.
We continue to study plants and animals, addition, subtraction, and making change; verbs and adjectives; consonant digraphs and syllables; manuscript and cursive handwriting; and especially learning about God’s plan for His people and how He continually loves and cares for us.
Jesus is coming! Get ready! Prepare your hearts! Give Him your worship and praise! May you be blessed with God’s peace throughout this holiday season!
