4th Grade - October 2024

4th graders have been busy! It has been wonderful settling into our routines and daily activities. We finished the book “Restart” by Gordon Korman and it served as a talking point in our classroom across many subject areas. It taught us that any given day, we can choose to be a better and more kind person.

Our literacy curriculum has taken us on a deep dive on what it means to have a great heart. We learned about the circulatory system and what it means to literally have a great heart. We are now learning what a figurative great heart is through reading the book “Love that Dog”. We have also been learning how to write a summary.

In math, we are diving into multiplying 1-digit numbers by multi-digit numbers. We are learning multiple different ways to accomplish this kind of math. Students will leave 4th grade with a “toolbox” of different strategies as to how they can solve the math problems they encounter.

We wrapped up our life science unit and are now onto social studies! Our first unit of social studies poses the question, “Is bottle redemption really worth it?” We are studying what happens when we recycle and when we don’t. We are learning our recycling options and the impact it has on Iowa specifically.

While we aren’t going on any major field trips this month, we will be walking to the Ericson Public Library and the Boone Fire Station. We always look forward to a chance to go out into the community to represent Trinity Lutheran School and Jesus. We are also enjoying our new Chromebooks, a very special privilege that we are incredibly grateful for!
