Kindergarteners have had a fun, busy, productive month in February! We focused on love, doing several heart art projects. We made valentines and wrote letters to send to Trinity’s members that are homebound or live in nursing homes and assisted living. For Presidents Day we learned about the presidency, wrote about what we would do if we were president, and did a patriotic craft.
A highlight this month was the 100th day of school on February 2nd. To celebrate we dressed as 100 year old people and made ‘100 days smarter’ crowns. For our snack we counted and ate 10 pieces of 10 different snacks. Our learning all day was focused on 100 so we built towers with 100 dixie cups for STEM and did lots of counting. The kids had a great time!
Kindergarteners started memory work in the 2nd semester, and they are doing great! We are working on our third verse already: Worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve. Matthew 4:10.
Phonics work continues with sounding out words. We are learning a lot of sight words in small groups and with the whole class. A major focus in literacy small groups has been reading fluency. We continue to improve our handwriting, working on neatness, size and capital letters and lowercase letters in the correct places.
We are working on adding up to ten for Math. We have used lots of manipulatives including ten frames with beads and candy hearts for Valentine’s Day and dominos! We also focused on tally marks and counting by five this month.
Kindergarten Round Up took place on February 9. 23 students came! It was a fun day for me to meet next year’s Kindergarteners and for them to experience a full day of school. They were eager to learn and excited to be “big Kindergarteners!”
