Kindergarteners have had a busy month! The children continue to work hard and grow every day.
We had our first field trip to Deal’s Orchard in Jefferson! We toured the orchard, explored the apple sorting and processing plant, had a picnic, played in the Apple Acres, and each child picked an apple and pumpkin.
Our Forest Fridays have been incredible so far. This month, the weather was lovely. We learned about trees and had fun exploring the Oak Woods area in Upper Ledges. We’re also learning the hymn, For the Beauty of the Earth, and practicing how to thank God for His beautiful world.
Calendar is a big part of our morning! The children are working on counting how many days we have been in school by ones, fives, and tens. They’re also learning to spell months and days of the week. Each day, we recognize and continue patterns, chart the weather, and practice handwriting in personal calendar notebooks.
LiteracyWe’re working hard on learning letter sounds, practicing writing our first names correctly, and improving our handwriting.
MathThis month, we have studied 2D shapes: square, rectangle, circle, oval, hexagon, and triangle. We learned a poem about each one, practiced drawing and spelling their names, and counted their sides and corners.
Science & ExplorationWe read Leaf Man by Lois Elhert, then went on a nature walk, collecting fall leaves and other natural items to create our own “leaf men.” In science, we’ve been learning all about pumpkins—their parts and their life cycle.
Every Walking Wednesday, we take a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy God’s creation. We practice walking in line and observing the world around us.
