5th & 6th Grade

With the New Year comes lots of talk about new hopes—resolutions and goals we set to better ourselves. It’s easy, in the midst of this, to become inward-focused. We tend to concentrate on what WE can do for US instead of what God has already done for us. We quickly forget the blessings of Christmas that we just celebrated and focus on what needs to be “fixed” about us.

This year, the 5th and 6th grade class encourages you to resolve to spend more time focusing on the blessings God has already given you. Below are some helpful reminders the class compiled just for you! Which of God’s blessings would you like to focus on in the New Year?

  • H - Have joy in the Lord! "Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say rejoice!" - Philippians 4:4

  • A - Appointed by God. "I chose you and appointed you." - John 15:16

  • P - Perfected by Him. God sent His Son to save us and make us perfect in Him. Instead of worrying about the New Year, thank Jesus for dying for us.

  • P - Peace. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." - John 14:27

  • Y - "You shall not worship false gods." God loves us enough to give us His Law to keep us safe and protect us.

  • N - Never let your eyes stray from God.

  • E - Eternal Life. "I tell you the truth. Anyone who believes has eternal life." - John 6:47

  • W - Washed. We were washed in the light of Christ when He died on the cross.

  • Y - "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind... You shall love your neighbor as yourself." - Matthew 22:37, 39. God gives us the ability to love others.

  • E - Everlasting love. God made us and will love us forever. "The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.'" - Jeremiah 31:3

  • A - Assurance. Be assured that you are in Christ's hands. Throughout the Bible, God promises that He is always with us, always guarding and protecting us.

  • R - Renewal. In Christ, God renews us. Christ was born, and now we are reborn. We don’t need any resolutions because God has already resolved to make us new in Christ Jesus.

Happy New Year!
