5th & 6th Grade
October has been an exciting month for the 5th and 6th graders. We kicked off the month with a field trip to the Big Island Rendezvous in Albert Lea, MN. There, we were able to dive into history, viewing a variety of presentations by historical reenactors. We were able to play games, watch a cannon fire, make candles, and even throw tomahawks! It was a great day filled with lots of great learning.
The 5th and 6th graders were also able to take a field trip to Ledges for Science class. There, Ms. Satre took them on a "tree talk" to help kick off their leaf projects. They had a wonderful afternoon with wonderful weather.
In Literature, 6th grade has continued to read through Bud, Not Buddy while 5th grade has continued reading about Westward Expansion. The 6th graders have been practicing literary discussions, and the 5th graders have been learning how to write summaries of scholarly articles. Both classes have been continuing to write phenomenal stories during their free-write time.

Greetings from Trinity 7-8th grade! October was an amazing month as we have learned so much! We are finishing this first quarter strong.
We have learned so much about DNA in Science. Looking at the genetic makeup of a cell reminds us of the amazingness of God's creation! Extracting DNA from a banana helped us to better understand God's power in creating every atom of this universe as well as every living cell down to the finest detail.
In Art we are studying American artist Chuck Close who is known for his large-scale, photorealistic portraits. His very detailed paintings resembled photographs. Close often worked from photographs, using grids to enlarge and recreate faces with incredible detail. Later on in his career his style changed into a more abstract, mosaic-like art where his portraits were made of small, colorful, shapes that blended into a beautiful picture when viewed from a distance. His paintings currently sell for $50,000! Our projects on the other hand are priceless. Be sure to check out our gallery in the parish hall.
In our academic learning of the past cultures, AKA Social Studies the 6-7th grade class is learning about ancient Egypt. Did you know ancient Egyptians built their giant pyramids as tombs for their pharaohs? That's a big memorial site for one person. They worshipped false gods but here at Trinity we know and learn about the one true God, our Lord Jesus Christ.
This month in math we have learned about the mathematical systems that God has created. We continue to master solving equations, working with formulas, variables and overall calculations. In language arts we are learning about Literature and how to learn and study it. Currently we are reading a story about a knight, "Castle Diary". This book is about a child named Tobias and his journey to becoming a knight. We as Christians are called to be Crusaders of the Word just as Tobias is on a crusade for his country.
Tune in next month for more on the happenings in 7th and 8th grade! Have a great month!
