5th & 6th Grade
Our school year has been off to a great start! It has been so fun watching this new group start to blend together as they work and learn together. The fifth graders have done an awesome job of adjusting to middle school, and the sixth graders have done a fantastic job of helping them out.
We got to kick off our year with a fun field trip. On September 3rd, we traveled to Calvin’s family’s farm to participate in an event hosted by the Iowa Farm Bureau. While there, we got to learn about different aspects of farming, and we even got to hear a presentation from Calvin himself! It was fun to get to spend some time in the fresh air and learn some new things outside of the classroom.
Inside of the classroom, we’ve been starting up our new Literature curriculum. In fifth grade, we’re starting the year talking about culture and how Westward Expansion in the United States impacted culture for many different groups of people. We’ll be gearing up to read our first novel (Thunder Rolling in the Mountains by Scott O’Dell) in the next few weeks.
The sixth grade group has been discussing resilience and thinking about how people needed resilience to endure during the Great Depression. Their first novel will be Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis, followed by Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse.
Here’s to a great year!

What's up this month?

Science
Lab safety is a big deal here at Trinity that is why we’ve been taught how to be safe in a lab. This year in science we are planning to learn about other organisms and their anatomy. We have learned how to handle broken glass and a fire. We have also learned all about the lab equipment and how to use it correctly.
Math
Math is something that you will use everywhere in life. Math and Pre-Algebra are working with integer operations and growing in our problem solving skills.
Language Arts
We have started our spelling curriculum for this year, and we have a new curriculum that includes English and Reading all together. We enjoy our ten minute journal time and have even gotten to incorporate our drawing skills. We are looking forward to reading some new exciting novels this year.
Social studies
Social Studies is important because history repeats itself. We are so far learning about some vocabulary and are actually making our own vocab bingo. In 8th grade we are learning about when Christopher Columbus came to the Americas.
Rotations
Rotations are all about using your creativity to thrive. There are three things we do in rotations. Art, Spanish and Cooking. So far we have made chocolate chip cookies and they were homemade and so will everything else be. In Spanish we are learning about numbers. Finally in art we are making graffiti and zentangle patterns.
In conclusion, Trinity is an awesome place to learn and grow with the support of fellow classmates.
“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else thought.”-Albert Einstein
